Action Medical Research is a leading independent medical research charity. For nearly 60 years we have been instrumental in the development of some of the most significant breakthroughs in recent medical history including the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, and discovering the importance of folic acid during pregnancy.

Our research has helped and will continue to benefit thousands of children affected by disease and disability.

Money raised form the sale of Paddington merchandise will help us find ways to prevent life-threatening infections such as meningitis and pneumonia, develop new treatments to improve the quality of life for disabled children and tackle rare and devastating conditions for which there are currently no cures.

You will also be supporting our special appeal, Touching Tiny Lives, funding vital research to reduce premature birth and improve care for sick babies. Every week, more than 25 babies die in the UK as a result of complications arising from premature birth. We want to change this and prevent so many families from suffering. But, as an independent charity we can only make this happen with your help.

Of course many health problems can affect the old as well as the young, and some conditions have their origins in childhood. So much of our work has the potential to improve health for all.
